Funds for Investigative Journalism Initiatives (FIJI) is now open

Gerakan Media Merdeka (Geramm) together with KINIACADEMY and Malaysia Reform Initiative (MARI) are currently offering an opportunity for journalists and non-journalists to apply for Funds for Investigative Journalism Initiatives (FIJI). The programme is designed to engage journalists, media organisations, civil society actors, and other motivated parties on themes related to Malaysian reform by developing, implementing, and disbursing an investigative journalism fund.

FIJI is currently seeking media projects with a budget up to RM10,000 that will work on identifying key reforms in selected areas such as corruption (including government-linked companies), freedom of expression, right to information, parliamentary reform, arbitrary detention and security laws, racial politics, and electoral reform. The grant will support the production of articles, radio stories, short films, photo essays, or other media outputs produced in languages spoken in Malaysia, including those targeting audiences on social media. Both media houses and individual journalists are welcome to apply for media grants. More information on the grant can be read on Geramm's website.
