Google News Showcase launches

Google has announced that an initial version of Google News Showcase has been rolled out across Australia. Google News Showcase focuses on regional and independent publishers in Australia, and provides a licensing programme that pays publishers to curate content for story panels across Google services. Australian Community Media, which publishes The Canberra Times, as well as titles including The Saturday Paper, Crikey, The New Daily, InDaily and The Conversation have received financial support from the product.
