Agency Profile: Elliot & Co.

Telum is looking to highlight the diverse and vibrant agencies in the Southeast Asian PR agency landscape in upcoming editions of our PR Alert. We want to encourage networking, business opportunities, and to celebrate the great initiatives being worked on around the region. If you'd like your agency to feature, get in touch.

Who is Elliot & Co. and what services do the agency offer?
Elliot & Co. aims to be Southeast Asia’s foremost company empowering small businesses and startups through the democratisation of PR services. We devote ourselves to telling the untold stories of our clients and bringing their brands the recognition they deserve. Diverging from the business model of typical PR agencies, we offer modular, campaign-based arrangements to provide our clients with the flexibility to tailor our PR services to meet their specific objectives and business goals.

How big is the Elliot & Co. team?
We are a 45-man team strong and growing, servicing clients in both B2B and B2C markets.

Where does your agency have an office?
Elliot & Co. has offices in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia with the majority of our team members based in Singapore and Malaysia.

What industry is your agency specialised in?
Elliot & Co. was created to champion the underdogs in the market - the startups and SMEs that would otherwise be struggling to get their voices heard in a saturated media landscape. Our past clients are from varied industries, from F&B, Fintech, Healthcare and Healthtech, and even down to traditional businesses.

Who is the founder and why did they start the agency?
Elliot & Co. was founded by Jeremy Foo at the end of 2016. Jeremy was often inspired by the passion of startup founders but noticed that these startups were severely left behind by PR firms during that time. No matter how innovative their ideas, startups and SMEs were not given the attention that they are now receiving today. Identifying this market imbalance, Jeremy founded Elliot & Co., to democratise the PR space, giving this underserved segment a chance to be heard.

Tell us about the leadership team.
We love seeing the power of youth enthusiasm, ideation and energy. As such, we have made it a commitment to groom young leaders internally. We have a wonderful bunch of up-and-coming young leaders in our team who started off as managers but are now leads in their respective departments. One example would be Vanessa Wan, our PR Lead in Singapore.

Despite only being 25, she is already leading a team of 10 consultants in Singapore, something that showcases her capability both as a PR practitioner as well as an emerging leader. There are other cases like this in Elliot, and we are proud to say it is something that has been a hallmark of what has led us to be the thriving agency that we are.

What is next for your agency?
We will continue to champion the underdogs in the market, empowering them to have their voices heard - not just in Singapore, but with our continued expansion into Malaysia, Indonesia, and future growth into the rest of Southeast Asia. Elliot & Co. hopes to keep reimagining how the PR landscape can be with our unconventional approach - innovating and adapting to our clients needs while also putting a touch of the “Elliot Way”.

In a sentence, describe your ideal relationship with a journalist.
One where the quality of the content we send makes them genuinely sit up and take notice because it is a worthwhile story, not just another cookie cutter press release. That would hopefully mean that Elliot & Co.’s content pieces are something journalists look forward to.

Tell us about a campaign you are currently working on or are particularly proud of.
One client we are particularly proud of is Geniebook, a leading regional Edutech company based in Singapore. Our relationship with them began 2 years before they recently raised their USD 16.6m Series A round and seeing them grow from an upcoming startup to a leader in the Edutech space is something we are so thrilled by.

Our favourite clients have always been those we work with before they become wildly successful, particularly when we get to share their first stories with the media. This is something we got to do for Geniebook and their founders, and is something we take a lot of pride in doing for many of our clients.

Any key PR trends your agency is keeping an eye on?
Influencer marketing and LinkedIn marketing are two growing interests for us, and will only continue to grow as digitalisation continues.

What skillsets do you look for in new hires?
One of the principles that we deeply value in Elliot & Co. is in providing an equal opportunity for all applicants, without discrimination against those without a background in PR. We believe in selecting applicants who show passion in developing stories, and a willingness to learn and take up a challenge.

75% of our employees do not have a background in PR prior to joining Elliot & Co. We have had team members from varied professional backgrounds including lawyers, journalists, and cabin crew. While this approach is controversially unconventional in a PR firm, it has allowed us to bring many different qualities and perspectives to the table - all of which are essential in providing a holistic PR service to our clients. We are actively looking for new account managers. Reach out to [email protected] for more information.
