Centre of Independent Journalism (CIJ) is a non-profit organisation that aspires for a society that is democratic, just and free where all people will enjoy free media and the freedom to express, seek, and impart information. CIJ has developed a brief detailing the state of the Malaysian media in 2021 recently, in conjunction with the
World Press Freedom Day 2022.
Titled 'Malaysian Media Landscape: A Snapshot of 2021', the 22-page brief is divided into four sections which are:

Media Landscape Overview that incorporates the impacts of political changes, economic situation, COVID-19, misinformation and media plurality on the media landscape
•
Fundamental Protection of Media and Infrastructure that touches on the media state under attack, protections during protests and covering events, and public incentives for media pluralism
•
Social Inclusiveness that encapsulates refugee and migrant reporting, suicide reporting, and gender reporting
•
Recommendations to the State that proposes guaranteeing equal access to all media, putting repressive laws against the media to an end, setting up the Malaysian Media Council (MMC) and establishing a media resilience fund.
