News Corp Australia announces growth and changes

News Corp Australia will create at least 100 new editorial roles in the next year, including 30 cadet positions and 20 digital roles. The news was announced in an internal note, sent to staff on Friday, which reported "strong audience and digital growth" across the company's Australian publications.

Executive Chairman Michael Miller said the new positions would include 30 new roles in the National Cadet Program and 20 new roles across the company's digital mastheads. "Additional roles will be recruited in the areas of data, audio, visual and video journalism and in segments such as sports, regional, hyperlocal news and new topic areas where audience interest is growing," Michael said.

The company also announced that two regional Queensland publications will soon return to weekly print editions, The Sunshine Coast Daily and Mackay's Daily Mercury. The move will be a trial, introduced by News Corp, after the company transitioned several regional publications from print to digital-only titles during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns last year.

The Sunshine Coast Daily announced it will publish a print edition of the masthead each Friday from the beginning of August. The newspaper will contain the week's biggest news stories as well as puzzles, a TV guide, real estate, tributes, opinion and local sport. The Sunshine Coast Daily will also continue to publish stories online and announced it will "introduce some exciting innovations to make it the best reader experience it can be online".

The Daily Mercury will also return to weekly print editions in August, announcing the paper will be printed on Fridays and will be available to purchase around the Mackay region.

Telum Media will update its platform as more information comes to hand.
