NT News Editor Matt Williams to depart for new role

NT News Editor, Matt Williams, will relocate from Darwin to Melbourne for a new role with News Corp Australia on 1st July. Matt has been appointed National Racing & Sports Wagering Editor for the company, and will be responsible for overseeing News Corp's racing and sports wagering newsroom, which includes punters.com.au and Racenet. The national racing editorial team will report directly to Matt.

Matt told Telum he has had "so many great memories and fun times in the office" of the NT News since joining in 2013. "To steal a line from a famous Editor, Col Allan, editing the NT News is the most fun I've had with clothes on," he said. During his time at the helm of the Top End masthead, Matt said his favourite front page headline would have to be "Why I've Got Some Sticky Near My Dicky", following the Australian cricket ball-tampering scandal in 2018. "One of my former Deputy Editors, Ken McGregor, came up with it and it went around the world with millions of views on social media," he said.

News Corp is currently searching for a replacement for Matt, with a new Editor expected to be announced by the end of June.
