Tell us about NZ Local Government Magazine. What sort of content do you publish, and how often?
NZ Local Government Magazine, under different masthead titles, has been published every month since at least 1963 (as far as our library goes back). It was acquired by Contrafed Publishing in 2014. As the country's only local government magazine, it covers a broad canvas of sector news, profiles, features, opinions, comments, trends, and innovations.

Tell us about the magazine's target audience.
Our magazine is read by anyone at the frontline of local and central politics and those who supply and deal with the sector.

What key trends or sectors are you following at the moment?
That would be central government versus local government and nationalisation versus local democracy. It is quite a sh*t fight at the moment over Labour Government reforms of the Resource Management Act, Three Waters, and even local government itself.

Tell us about the team at NZ Local Government Magazine - who covers what?
We use a skeleton marketing / admin / editorial base and a large number of contributors and contract support that includes a dedicated production team.

Any editorial deadlines to be aware of?
The deadline is always around the 6^th of the month before the month of publication.

What does your ideal PR pitch look like? Are there any pitches you’d like to receive more (or less!) of?
We don't want "thought pieces" from companies trying to virtue-signal over trendy issues, particularly when they have no expertise in the subject, and welcome didactic features, comments and articles that our readers can learn from.

We don't want to know why - we want to know how. And we are keen on projects that teach innovative and challenging ways of succeeding. We also encourage articles and stories from those working directly within local and central government.
