Reuters Institute's 2022 Digital News Report is now available to download from the official Reuters Institute's
website. The 164-page report gathers insights about digital news consumption based on a
YouGov survey of over 93,000 online news consumers in 46 markets, covering half of the world's population.
Some key findings from Malaysia in this report highlight:
• Online news and social media remain the main sources of news in Malaysia.
• Consolidation of media ownership
• Sponsored content and government advertising in digital media
• Podcasting as a staple medium for digital radio and TV stations
Buletin TV3 has the highest offline news reach with 53% weekly reach, followed by Astro AWANI (35%), Harian Metro (29%), Berita Harian (28%) and Sinar Harian (23%).
For digital titles,
Malaysiakini retained its status as the online portal with the highest online reach at 48% weekly reach, followed by Astro AWANI's
online portal (40%), and The Star's
online portal, Harian Metro's
online portal, and Berita Harian's
online portal with a shared weekly reach of 26% respectively.
Astro AWANI maintained its reputation as the Most Trusted News Brands in Malaysia for the fifth consecutive year with a brand trust score of 64%, followed by The Star (56%) and Malaysiakini (54%).
