Telum vox pop: Journalists react as COVID-19 cases surged in Indonesia
By Muhammad Arby
Telum spoke with five journalists to discuss the surging number of COVID-19 in Indonesia.
New cases, death rates, and the number of patients admitted to hospitals have skyrocketed over the past few weeks. There were 2.178.272 people diagnosed with the virus as of 30th June 2021, since the first case was announced by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo on 2nd March 2020.
"Honestly, I am not surprised with this situation because there are still some people who do not adhere to health protocols consistently," said Kukuh Wahyudi from Bolalob.com
Forestya Sartika from Digdaya TV is concerned about the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. Similarly, Rheza Ardiansyah from SEA Today News reminds journalists and communications professionals to continue to comply the health protocols.
Meanwhile, Bayu Dwityo Wicaksono from IDN Times Jatim is grateful for his newsroom policy that does not require employees to work from office. Likewise with Deandra Syarizka from Tech in Asia Indonesia.
"As long as COVID-19 cases continue to climb, it’s better to prioritise online activities," said Deandra.
