Telum Vox Pop: What does the future of aviation look like to you?

For many, the aviation industry is often linked to the business of airline travel. But the industry encompasses much more than the airports travellers stroll through to board a flight to their next holiday destination. While the airline sector certainly falls within the aviation industry, so too does aircraft manufacturing, air safety and air traffic control, cargo and logistics, and even the business of military aviation. To explore the trends that are shaping the future of aviation, Telum spoke with a selection of communications practitioners across Southeast Asia.

One can expect an exciting and bustling year for practitioners in the aviation industry as travel demand continues to see a steady increase. The aviation sector has a tremendous part to play in connecting people, cultures and businesses, and I am humbled to be telling these stories as we push the boundaries of public relations, content and social media.

With travel appetites and the consumption of content seeing a paradigm shift since the pandemic, it is our job as PR practitioners to continuously push the boundaries to engage our audiences in meaningful ways.

As the air cargo industry continues to grow and evolve, it is becoming increasingly crucial for the sector to embrace sustainable practices and advanced technologies. With environmental concerns at the forefront of public consciousness, air cargo carriers are under pressure to reduce their carbon footprint and find eco-friendly alternative fuel sources.

One potential solution is using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), made from renewable sources. The SAF delivered produces around 80% fewer carbon emissions over its lifecycle than traditional jet fuel.

Aside from the sustainable solution, the industry player is exploring advanced technologies like automation and data analytics to optimise their operations, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. These innovations can help carriers streamline warehousing, loading, and tracking processes, enabling them to deliver goods faster and more reliably than ever before.

The future of aviation looks bright from where I sit. As someone new to the industry, I can see the passion, drive, and innovation that goes into everything we do. Sustainability is front and center and will keep being a priority. I’m excited for more women to lead because it makes companies and the world a better place.

Southeast Asia is an exciting region for aviation because in the next 20 years, we will experience significant growth and the region will need about 6,000 new airplanes to transport passengers and cargo. We are seeing airline customers get creative with the ways they operate, connecting people to more places, and offering experiences of a lifetime.

Working in an industry that brings people together and innovates for the future is thrilling, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
