Guardian Australia to expand state coverage
Guardian Australia has announced the upcoming expansion of its state news coverage across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. The initiative is part of Guardian's commercial agreement with Google News Showcase, which was signed earlier this year.
The project will include "geo-located containers" which will make a selection of state news stories on Guardian Australia's homepage accessible to readers based in the relevant state.
As part of the expansion, due to launch in February 2022, the masthead is hiring a State Correspondent and State Reporter to work from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, as well as other editorial and support staff. This will allow Guardian Australia to provide a deeper coverage of state-based issues, including political news.
Guardian Australia's Editor, Lenore Taylor, said the team hopes to expand their coverage to other states over time.
