Who is Cyber Security Connect's audience?
Amid the recent spike in cyber security incidents, Cyber Security Connect provides news and market intelligence to everyone from IT professionals to business leaders who are only beginning to navigate their cyber security journey! It's a broad audience, but more people than ever are eager to engage and learn about cyber security.

Who makes up the editorial team?
We are fortunate that our editorial team has extensive experience in tech journalism and communications.

Spearheading Cyber Security Connect’s operations on the ground is our Senior Journalist, David Hollingworth. David joined Cyber Security Connect following years of experience heading up market-leading gaming and technology magazines.

We are also supported by the indefatigable Daniel Croft who joined the publication as a Journalist following a career in technology writing!

What big stories or trends are you keeping an eye on in 2023?
Following the large-scale hacks at the end of 2022, we’ve seen a boom in interest from Australian businesses who are looking to learn more about cyber security. It seemed that overnight cyber security became an area that we all need to keep an eye on - not just the big end of town.

At Cyber Security Connect, we’ll be keeping an eye out for the growth in DIY hacking operations. Over recent years, we’ve seen an explosion in the use of Ransomware-as-a-Service, where hackers (some of whom aren’t particularly sophisticated) are able to buy ransomware codes and decryption tools to perform their own hacking operations.

Likewise, amid increasing global instability and the war in the Ukraine, we’ve seen the proliferation of free-to-access malware for individuals to undertake their own politically motivated cyber operations. Simply, anyone can become a cyber-criminal now, and it’s extremely worrying.

With recent cyber attacks dominating the news cycle, how is the publication staying on top of the demand for accurate and informative coverage?
In addition to our daily news coverage, we also publish a fortnightly podcast, featuring Australia’s foremost cyber security thought leaders. These podcasts provide an opportunity for us to engage directly with experts to unpack the need-to-know strategies and insights to keep Australians and Australian businesses safe.

In addition to myself, the podcast is also co-hosted by Cyber Security Connect's Director, Phillip Tarrant, and Major General (Ret’d) Marcus Thompson, the inaugural head of the Australian Defence Force’s Information Warfare Division.

We’re also in the process of hosting the inaugural Australian Cyber Security Summit in 2023 with our principal partner, Palo Alto, where we are bringing together thought leaders from across Australia to unpack emerging victimology trends and Australia's cyber security posture. We will also be hosting a live threat emulation - where participants will watch a real-time breach unfold before their eyes.

The website features insights from various industry leaders. Does Cyber Security Connect welcome contributions or do you reach out to experts directly?
Through our events, podcasts and regular news coverage we are fortunate to report directly from leading cyber security experts. Though as part of our role connecting industry, government and thought leaders, we welcome insights from various industry leaders. After all, all Australians benefit from a better-informed cyber security industry!

What advice do you have for people pitching stories or leads to Cyber Security Connect?
With the growth in Australia’s cyber security industry, there certainly has been a lot of interest in pitching stories and leads to Cyber Security Connect! We have a busy newsroom so email is usually the best way to get the ball rolling, and if something is of interest to us, we'll definitely chase people up.
