The Dutch financial and economics newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad (FD) is seeking a news assistant / producer in Beijing.

The job involves monitoring daily (financial / economic) news, trends and developments in China. Researching and discussing potential reporting topics, approaching interviewees, translation, going on reporting trips, and some minor administrative work. 

With roots dating back as early as 1796, the FD is one of the oldest newspapers in The Netherlands and the only newspaper dedicated to news on finance, and economics. Our newspaper, podcasts and weekly magazine are reaching an ever-growing audience. Our main audience works in Dutch business, the public sector, politics and academics. The newspaper has had a bureau in China since 2007.  

Requirements: 

• Native speaker of Mandarin and fairly good English.
• A solid understanding of current and historical affairs in China.
• Financial and economic knowledge and prior experience in the field or working for a foreign outlet is a plus but not required.
• Curiosity, enthusiasm in a broad range of issues, and flexibility is more important.

This is a typical positon for starters with some internship or a few years work experience who are willing to learn the trade of working for a foreign media outlet.

The work is fulltime, though as the holidays will try to follow mostly Chinese and European calendars (if the news cycle allows it) there will be a fair amount of free time.
