THE ROLE

• AFP, a world leader in providing fast and accurate news coverage, is currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated English-language reporter to join its Taipei office.
• You will be working in a fast-paced environment delivering precise, clear and well-written copy in several formats, including breaking news, reportages, features and in-depth angles, telling the story of Taiwan to a global audience.
• You will cover an exciting range of stories from cross-strait geopolitical tensions, the Taiwanese microprocessors industry and the global struggle for securing vital chips, to the effect of climate change and the evolution of Taiwanese society, most importantly its youth.
• You will also be called upon to cover events outside of Taiwan if the news requires, mainly in Asia-Pacific but potentially outside of the region as well.
• You will work hand in hand with our photo and video reporters to ensure strong multimedia and visually impactful coverage and operate under AFP’s high standards of accuracy and fair reporting.
• You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency’s guidelines on social media activity. You will commit to respecting AFP’s ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and in the Agency’s style guide.
• You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by producing stories yourself or helping factcheckers in the network and ensure you are trained in the various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism. • In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven professional experience (3 to 10 years) in written journalism
• Native level of Mandarin, Fluent in English
• Comfortable using and monitoring social media
• Team player, able to work with colleagues in text, photo, video and our digital verification journalists
• Ready to work on flexible hours when needed, including weekends
• The following skills are not essential but would be an advantage: experience in wire agency reporting; video reporting / editing skills; French language
