Job description
THE ROLE
The international news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) is seeking a photo editor to be part of a dynamic team in Bangkok handling photo production across the Asia-Pacific region.
Working together with colleagues on the picture desks in Hong Kong and New Delhi, the successful applicant will select and edit photographs, write captions and showcase the diverse production to AFP clients worldwide. The editor will need to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure while maintaining AFP’s high standard of editorial judgement, including situations involving live editing and breaking news.
The editor must monitor the news, features and sport events that could be of interest to AFP and follow up with the photographers to guarantee fair, accurate and quality production that is AFP’s trademark. Close collaboration with the video, text, data visualization and digital investigation departments is essential.
The editor will have to ensure the reliability of events covered and respect for the agency’s editorial policy and other guidelines, including those on the use of social media. He / she should be familiar with the issues involved in handling user-generated content (UGC) and AFP’s guidelines concerning their use. Online training is available at https://digitalcourses.afp.com for learning about various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism.
The job requires flexibility in terms of hours. Shared early / late shifts and weekends are part of the desk routine as it is with other editorial services.

REQUIREMENTS
- Track record in news photo editing and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop software
- Excellent news judgment and adept at editing images on real-time deadlines
- Experience in editing sports events will be a serious advantage
- Possess strong writing skills and be capable of working well within a bigger team communicating online across different locations
- Photo shooting capabilities are a plus
- Fluent in English, other languages a bonus
