Spotlight On... Alex Liddington-Cox, Founder and Director of The Media Distillery
Welcome to the first Telum Spotlight, a quick insight into some of the interesting people in the PR and Communications space, as well as freelancers and those launching their own boutique agencies. Alex Liddington-Cox, who recently launched The Media Distillery, very kindly volunteered to be the first in the Spotlight.
By way of Introduction:
I'm a journalism and comms industry veteran with over 13 years' experience. At The Media Distillery, we predominantly advise technology, energy and financial services companies on their PR and content strategy. We work with listed and unlisted companies on capital raises, IPOs, brand building, customer acquisition, talent retention and thought leadership.
First job:
Cadet Journalist with Business Spectator
Most admired person in comms:
Harrison Polites, The Media Accelerator
Most admired journalist:
Stephen Bartholomeusz
Advice to anyone starting out in comms:
Journalists tend to stay in your lives longer than clients. Act accordingly.
One thing you would change about the communications industry:
Over-promising
Essential daily reading:
The AFR, The Australian, The Economist, Financial Times
Favourite book:
Robin Hobb, Assassin's Apprentice
Favourite film:
Arrival
Dream holiday:
Egypt / Germany to catch a mate's wedding that was delayed due to COVID-19.
Clickbait fact about you:
I uncovered the toxic social media activity / strategies of the United Patriots Front in the lead up to the Bendigo Mosque protests.
Quotable you: (what’s your most often used saying or quote?)
"Did you hear what happened to the company that didn't get in the paper? Me neither."
