[Telum News Watch] What World Press Freedom Day means for the Filipino journalist

By George Putong

What's happening? The United Nations General Assembly declared 3rd May as World Press Freedom Day or World Press Day to help raise awareness about the importance of a free press. But in the present, threats from a fast-changing information ecosystem exist. This is an alarm raised by 2021 Nobel laureate Maria Ressa. Journalists also face the threat of cyber libel being used as a political weapon to silence anyone critical of people in power. Plus, dealing with trolls.

Who are we speaking with? Telum Media caught up with Cebu-based journalist Alan Luigi Flores to get his thoughts about what World Press Freedom Day means to the Filipino journalist. He also shares what his wishes are for journalists in 2023.
