Nine and WIN sign regional television agreement
Nine Entertainment Co. and WIN Corporation have announced the signing of a new regional television affiliation agreement. The partnership will see WIN broadcast Nine's metropolitan free-to-fair television content (from Channel 9, 9Go, 9Gem and 9Life) to markets in Tasmania, regional Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Southern NSW. The agreement is for a minimum of seven years, and will commence on 1st July 2021. Nine and WIN had held a regional partnership until 2016, when Nine switched to its current affiliate partner, Southern Cross Austereo.
The new partnership will see WIN continue to present local news bulletins in regional areas at 5.30pm, before presenting Nine's 6pm state bulletin in each state. A note from CEO Hugh Marks confirmed that 9 News Regional will not continue in its current form, with the company looking to redeploy impacted employees where possible.
Telum Media has contacted Southern Cross Austereo for comment but had not received a response by the time of publication.
