Best of Telum: Editorial highlights from 2022

To wrap up 2022, Telum's editorial team has handpicked some of the best content pieces from across East Asia, including a selection of our most popular interviews, webinars, videos and articles.

Generating gender parity and local video content
To kick off the new year, we took a deep dive into women's experience of gender parity in Asia with Christine Fellowes, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific at NBCUniversal International Networks & DTC. Christine shared the story behind her initiative, NINEby9, which aims to drive gender equality in organisations across Asia by 2030, including in the media and PR industries. She also shared her thoughts on what needs to be done to achieve the goal.

Focusing specifically on the mediascape in Hong Kong, we spoke with the editorial team at 米紙 (Ricezi2), a newly established video platform that publishes profile interviews and stories about local culture and communities. As one of the top 10 content creators in Hong Kong in 2021, the Ricezi2 team unveiled its take on video journalism and the rise of new media in the city.

Talks about Microsoft’s future and NGO’s advocacy
Going into the second month of the year, Jeffrey Goldfarb, Asia Pacific Editor of Reuters Breakingviews joined Telum for a live chat about the media outlet’s 2022 Predictions book. The discussion revolved around articles and themes of this year’s predictions, including, but not limited to, the exodus of Chinese firms from New York and why it is Microsoft's year to shine.

As Global Communications Director, New Energy Nexus’ Tristan Tremschnig shared his take on comms around clean energy, cleaning up the PR sector and what makes a good social change campaign.

Marching into the post-Olympic Chinese sports industry
The Winter Olympic frenzy wouldn’t be complete without a chat with Mark Dreyer, who serves as Marketing and Communications Director at AmCham China and as Founder of sports news blog, China Sports Insider. With more than 20 years in media and comms, Mark discussed social media in Mainland China and future challenges in sports media.

Travelling in Asia is no longer for April Fools
As the region anticipated Asia's long-awaited travel and tourism industry recovery, we caught up with several travel PR and comms professionals in Hong Kong to hear what they had missed the most and how they had been preparing to play catch-up.

DEI in the newsroom
As we approach the middle of the year, Telum sat down with a panel of media industry insiders to discuss discrimination in Asia's newsrooms and how media folks can improve diversity in the workplace and in their reporting.

The metaverse for insurers, communicators and beyond
Ending the first half of 2022, Telum had its own metaverse month where we spoke to comms professionals and journalists about everything Web 3.0, NFT, crypto and AI related. Apart from the end-of-summer pieces we highlighted earlier, we also looked into other perspectives, including how insurers work with the metaverse, risks and ethical issues posed by emerging tech, and what it means for the metaverse to be the next frontier for communicators.

Stay tuned for more popular pieces throughout rest of the year in Thursday’s East Asia PR Alert.
